OK, so Saturday morning I woke up and found this white stuff on my front glass, as my clowns sleep in the back of the tank, and do not "host" in anything in my tank I wasn't sure if they are eggs...well they are. Coolest thing is Sunday morning when I woke up there was another set of eggs and same thing this morning....My clowns had never laid eggs before, and now I have 3 sets of them...

I have black clowns, and really want to try to raise the babies. But I really don't know how. Can anyone on here explain any techniques they may have done to sucessfully tank raise clowns? I know I have to remove them from the tank before they hatch. And was told I need live rotifers and Phyto. I don't know how to make those, but probably have all the right stuff to do it.

Please help...

i at one point thought about raising clowns unfortunately i didnt do that...
here is a site i found
www.marshreef.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=11
(it opens as a word document) I found it extremely helpful. The phyto isn't that hard to grow.. i do it at work...we once tried growing rotifers that is a bit harder because the rotifers eat the live phyto and from what ive been told for every gallon of rotifers u have..u should have 5 gallons of phyto..Hope this is helpful.
Also the book Clownfishes by Joyce D. Wilkerson is good and talks about breeding

Thanks for the info on the

Thanks for the info on the phyto/roti ratio I'll need, I found that site earlier today too...I picked up a 2.5g tank from my mom, and had to go out and buy a heater and air pump...Marco knows how to make phyto and rotiphers so I hope I'm set there, hopefully they will live long enough to hatch, at this point, the male clown was eating part of the first batch of eggs today as a crab messed up the batch of eggs...so the first batch is over half gone. But the Second and third is still there. My mom has the book so hopefully I'll be able to borrow it and read too. I don't expect the first batches to live, but am excited that they are laying eggs.

Your welcome.. From what i

Your welcome..
From what i read the first batch almost never lives just because it takes sometime to culture the rotifers and phyto

good luck Cristina! I think

good luck Cristina!
I think 2 of the black clowns look great in our Tank ( ok, Lisas Tank) too.
Please try hard and watch the eggs, no shopping for the next days.....I will be your first "customer". Smiling

I'll have eggs hatching

I'll have eggs hatching Sunday night, Monday Night and Wednesday night if they live that long...after the crab messed the first bunch up the male started eating the first batches eggs, now he isn't tending to them like he did before. I know the eggs have good current in tht area, but I just hope its enough to keep them from getting a fungal infection. I'm starting to take pics so I will post stuff up for you guys. I'm going to treat this as a science experiment and documet daily.

Take a razor blade and peel

Take a razor blade and peel the eggs off of the glass. Then, you can raise them artificially.

I used to do it all the time with discus. If you want, the next time they lay eggs on the glass, let me know and I'll give it a shot.

Well yesterday the second

Well yesterday the second set of eggs was completely eaten, so at night I set up the tank for them to hatch in, scrapped the last set of eggs, and now have them in the little tank...this set should hatch wednesday next week, if they make it that long...We'll see....

If the tank is bare bottom

If the tank is bare bottom with no other critters, put in a weak airstone and methylene blue. This will keep the eggs from getting attacked by fungus.

What is methylene blue? and

What is methylene blue? and where can I find it...I have a weak air stone in, and put a couple of small pieces of rock over it to make the bubbles not so harsh on the water.

Methylene blue is a dye.

Methylene blue is a dye. Very dark blue, never comes out of your clothes, takes about a week to come out of your skin. So be CAREFUL.

It is a readily available aquarium medication for freshwater. Boardroom should have it.

»

I know Brian does it...I'm

I know Brian does it...I'm hoping Marco and I will make rotifers Sunday night as the only batch that was left was the third and they are supposed to hatch on Wednesday....so hopefully they will make it not being in the main tank as I had to pull them out due to the clowns eating the eggs when any of the other fish swam by...I'll keep you guys posted. Promise.

Well my eggs were supposed

Well my eggs were supposed to hatch last night, but for the last couple days I haven't been able to find them in the 2.5g tank I moved them into...I don't know what happened...but this obviously isn't good. If I don't see little hatchlings tonight I will be taking the tank down and will set up again with the next set of eggs.

OK, so it's FRIDAY and there

OK, so it's FRIDAY and there were still no babies...i think removing them from the tank was not the brightest idea I've had all year...and neither was when i hurt my toe....but anyways...I tore down the nursery today, still didn't find the eggs either, so I'm going to guess that they disappeared.

OH well, there is always next time...

OK, so I guess it is next

OK, so I guess it is next time already...I have two more sacks of eggs, this time one in a removable rock of Zoa's, and the other was on the glass I guess, and i accidently ran over them with the mag-float, good thing though is they are attached at the top of the mag-float...and both are removable....when the time comes for hatching..YIPPEE. Not sure when the eggs were laid, i think I saw them in there yesterday on the Zoa rock, but def not on the mag-float. The mag float sat in their corner last night, so I hope they just laid them on the float..cause I don't really remember seeing anything on the glass prior to cleaning today.

Now if only our monthly meeting was being held this weekend....I could really use a good set of rotifers by Wednesday/Thursday next week....

I'll keep you updated

The first pic looks like

The first pic looks like snail eggs, not clown eggs. Clown eggs should be yellowish orange to orange.

well if they are snail eggs,

well if they are snail eggs, then the clowns are doing a really good job protecting them....

I read that the eggs will start to take color of the parent clowns...my last ones stayed a light white to Yellow look as they got bigger and older....had a silver speck inside also...

BTW...have yet another sack of eggs this morning. So that makes 4 right now in my tank, and they have all been in the same area, same consistency, and always guarded by the clowns.

I hope they are clowns...but wouldn't doubt the possibility of it being something else.
