Reading todays news on www.nbc-2.com makes me once again wonder ... WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING TO SWFL ?

Murder, crack deals, crack houses, grow houses, Murder suicide, 14 year old charged with vandalism, Grand theft, and trading the stolen pickup for pot ... need I go on?

What happened to this little area that used to be known for beautiful beaches, great weather, bad traffic ... and good retirement living.

Now we have two more murders to add to the list....

Fort Myers used to be such a safe place...it scares me bringing my children up here. I remember when I was a child and could roam the neighborhood I lived in, and then as a Teen I rollerbladed all over town too, never a thought that something would happen....I have problems even letting my kids play outside with out an adult with them...This is becoming a scary place!

No wonder why so many people are leaving here...well other than the economy!

CHARLOTTE COUNTY: Two men were beat up and then arrested after Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies say they tried to rob a paraplegic man inside his home.
Deputies say what the suspects didn’t know is that homeowner Charles Mathieu, 30, had friend 31-year-old Randy John, staying over that night. John confronted the robbers and beat both of them badly enough that they had to be sent to the hospital.

According to a release by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, John was asleep while Mathieu was out of his wheelchair sitting on his couch playing video games.

The victims told deputies that the sliding glass door was smashed and two men entered the house. They told deputies that one of the suspects had a gun later, which was later found to be a BB pistol.

Mathieu says that gunman pushed him down on the couch and stuck the gun barrel in his face and told him not to move or make a noise. Then, they started ransacking the home.

It was then that Randy John came out of a bedroom, saw the suspects, and started beating them.

When deputies arrived, they found the home in total disarray broken glass, furniture and blood all over the walls, floor, and even outside the home.

The two suspects were taken by EMS to Peace River Regional Medical Center and were identified as Michael Christian Moritz, 20, of 27337 Neaptide Drive in Deep Creek, and 15-year-old Rick J. Benedict of 27174 Sunnybrook Road in Harbour Heights.

Both of the suspects were treated for multiple cuts and bruises and then released to Charlotte County detectives.

Deputies say Benedict admitted that he and Moritz went to the house to steal marijuana and cash after they had heard Mathieu kept cash in his couch and would be an easy hit.

Moritz said he smashed the door in with a porcelain toilet tank top he brought from his home, and Benedict displayed the BB gun after getting inside the home.

Moritz said they were startled that someone else was in the house when this man came out of nowhere and punched him putting him in a daze.

During the fight, Moritz told deputies he lost his shoes, hat and handkerchief used as a mask which fell off in the kitchen.

Mathieu received minor injuries from the flying glass when the pair broke into the home, but he refused treatment.

Moritz and Benedict were both charged with Home Invasion Robbery and are being held on no bond.

I laughed my a** off at the stupidity of those young boys...they thought they were going to get away with scaring and robbing a paraplegic and had their asses handed to them...especially the boy in the picture posted.

I wonder if the 10-20-life rule is in effect for him shoving the bb gun in the guys face....i hope he's in jail for a very long time.
